Overview
In 2015, the impending loss of Frankford's only supermarket inspired neighborhood residents and The Frankford Community Development Corporation (FCDC) to take action, and work with SEPTA and the City of Philadelphia to envision the potential for development around SEPTA's Frankford Transportation Center (FTC) - the busiest transit center outside of downtown. In 2016, the supermarket closed, leaving Frankford without a full-service supermarket. Two years earlier, the City's Philadelphia 2035 plan identified FTC as an ideal location for a health center. At about the same time, a market study showed that there is sufficient need and demand to support at least one, and possibly two, supermarkets in Frankford.
